"Dianne, our family is obsessed with you and your stories! We have 3 of your CDs, and play them in the car every time we're in it. We know them by heart singing along and we even know the dialog by heart for so many of your stories. My 4 year old loves half chick and the Donkey in Lion's skin, and the Juba song. My 7 year old (and all of us) LOVE to hear Number 9 shoes, and our ultimate favorite is the  Talking eggs, and my girls pretend they're Rose and Blanche (they take turns). We crack up every time, and we're entertained EVERY time, no matter how many times we hear them.
Thank you SO much for your amazing presence in our lives. Listening to you is enriching to my daughters, and I am grateful to you."

Comments: Dear Diane

We all want to thank you for your wonderful visit to Towne House.  Everyone was so enthralled with your stories and we have not stopped talking about them.  We have been spreading your stories which are so simple, but so instructive in how we should live our lives.  Although you could not have known, your stories spoke to the philosophy of our program.  We are a community of diverse people coming together to support and understand each other.  We also believe that everyone has a special gift and contribution to share, and each person’s contribution is essential, no matter how small. You should be on the 6 o’clock news with your message – it would make the world a better place and help people realize how insignificant our differences are.  Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us.  We also thank Jo for arranging for you to be here.  You brought us a lot of joy and inspiration.  It was a very special day and we are so appreciative of this amazing experience.

 Many thanks,

 Milly

Comments: I miss you. I miss your songs and honest stories and your beautiful clothes. Last weekend I gave your CD gift to my granddaughter, Lia. she was very excited about the upbeat version of the ABC song, since that is just where she is developmentally at the moment. The material will grow with her, and when I am there I will think of you. Thank you.
I have written more of my story as well as reading the book written by my hopeful editor/publisher. The book helped me understand her interest in my story. Is your writing in the works? Please let me know if you will be doing some work for Alabama A&M. Come and have a cup of tea with me.

Warmly,
Gail

Comments: You are truly a blessing.  I wholeheartedly enjoyed your performance at Northeast Alabama Community College.  Your story of Crocodile and Hen touched me deeply.  Although you said that one was "for the children," I found a much deeper meaning.  In an area that is, at times, full of racial tension, that story reached out and touched something inside me.  I wish that everyone could have the opportunity I was blessed with:  the opportunity to hear and see you live.  Thank you so much.

Comments: What a pleasant surprise to see you in person.  My children and I  recognized you from the wonderful video "African Story Children", that timeless collection of powerful, inspiring stories.  Seeing you perform live just blew our minds even more.  My children are still making references to "Half Chick", using the power of story to guide and teach them.   And so am I.  Great job. Thank you.  Many Blessings.

Comments: Dear Diane,

Thank you so much for your stories and insights that you shared with us yesterday at the SDCOE Impact day for Librarians. I am new to the elementary library, having come from middle school level.  I was very nervous about reading to the little ones. They are just so grateful and forgiving and attentive.  It has very quickly become my favorite part of the "job".  You gave me some needed help to give my stories more pizzaz !   I will long remember your style and energy.

Comments: Dear Diane,

Wintertales was fantastic with you there!  You were my favorite teller.  I love being left with thought-provoking stories.  Your workshops and storytelling performances this past weekend at Wintertales was intriguing.  I am thrilled that you will be recording many of the stories that you do not have yet on tape; "Penny for Your Thoughts," and your interpretations of "Brer Rabbit" stories. I will be looking forward to the release.

I wanted to thank you for inspiring me to tell stories once again.  It has been several years since I last shared my stories.  The weekend was most spiritual and nourishing for my soul.

Comments: Diane, today you were at Verdugo Woodlands in Glendale and your performance was mesmerizing. I am so thankful that you were "found"! I immediately loaned 'The Talking Eggs' to another teacher. I don't have 'The Hired Hand', and nor does our school library, but I'm planning to purchase it this weekend because my class is clamoring to read it and to compare it to your oral version.

Your personal story was timely, as my class had just spent the last two weeks reading about Jackie Robinson and how unfair laws were for Blacks in different parts of our country. We also thought about the deeper messages Dr. King delivered to the world. Thank you again for bringing the art of the story, which helps the listener to hear and experience the true message.

Comments: I had a front row seat(on the floor) with my granddaughter to witness Diane for the first time and I was completely captivated as was my granddaughter. As we left the Makawao library she said "I'm going to be a storyteller when I grow up." Diane's facial expressions, vocal inflections, body language, and rhythm had everyone in the audience spellbound. The folks in the Makawao library last night were treated to a great event. We all became part of Diane's world. She made sure we all felt a part of it. Thank you so much for the personal story about your son and his journey to being his self. My granddaughter also comes from the two cultures and your story could not have been more fitting for her. When Diane comes to town to tell you better be there!

I had the pleasure of hearing you tell stories at the Glistening Waters Storytelling Festival in Masterton this past weekend. I was too shy to come up and talk to you in person - I am so in awe of you. I remember your tour of NZ in 1995. You told stories at the Canterbury Public Library in Christchurch where I had just begun work as a children's librarian. You are such an inspiration. I believe we are all storytellers - and everyone has a story to tell. Thank you for sharing your stories

(a simple statement for some - a huge breakthrough for Leina!) I have just ordered all your recordings and can hardly wait to get them. I will be there at 2004 with at least 12 young adults from Hohepa I hope. Thanks for all the fun, for the life and the vitality you shared. This is Zola. Your website is amazing. I share with my son ( who is seven now) how I came to know storytelling as an art and who was my most inspiring teacher. I was blessed to have spent time with you in Vukani Mwethu and to have traveled to festivals. It seems a lifetime ago. I came across your website while planning to attend a festival in Baltimore in November. I have seen your tapes (some), and your work brings grace to the daily domestic task of teaching my child the "Glory of the Story"  Yours-Mine-Ours!

My family and I saw you perform this past weekend at the London Childrren's Arts Festival and we had a wonderful time listening to your stories. Are either of these story/songs on any of your recordings? Please let me know as it would be a wonderful souvenir from our

Dear Diane,
Thank you for your magnificent telling at this past weekend's Sierra
Storytelling Festival! You get better all the time and your stories
truly touched my heart. Your website has a wonderful blurb about why you tell and why you want to make folks "feel". Well, most of all, thank you for being such an inspiration to my daughter. My daughter first heard you tell about 10 years ago at one of the Palo Alto libraries' summer reading club programs. That did it! She was hooked! So not only did you touch her heart so profoundly, you inspired her to become a teller herself. I'm sure you don't remember but Mia was so thrilled to be on the same TV show with you about 7 yrs. ago, telling holiday tales for a 24 hour videotape on "voices of the season." So who knows, my nice blond, grey-eyed Yuppie Jewish teenager is now your biggest fan. To her, you are the quintessential storyteller! Thank you for giving my kid the gift of story. Our family is sad that this was the last of the Sierra Storytelling Festivals. But I'm sure my daughter will get to hear you again on the festival circuit, at conferences and even here at our local libraries. I remember how she insisted that our local Los Altos library hire you for a summer reading club program. You told "Sleeping Ugly" one of Mia's favorite stories many years ago.
Again, you may not remember, but Mia sure does!

Be well and keep on telling,
Sincerely,
Helene Sue Rock

Thank you for coming to Stiern Middle School. It was really nice having you here, listening to your stories and making the sounds with you. In fact I learned two things from the story you told about your son: "You should listen to your parents, sometimes they know what's best" and also "listen to elders (don't talk back)". The stories were all very nice and they had a moral to them, which I really enjoyed. So I just wanted to thank you for coming.

Sincerely yours, Rebecca

Dear Diane, Our family saw you at the library during the recent Children's Festival in our city. You were so animated and energetic. Madeline was, and is, enthralled with the Aesop stories on your recording ("at least I got a bone"). When people asked what she wanted to be before she would say a doctor or an artist. Now it is a storyteller. She thinks that she hears herself in the voices of the people on the recording. She was a part of the festivities. You wove magic spells and involved your audience in the process of making the stories live and breathe. Thank you so much. I enjoyed your web site. I really was touched by your discussion with the audience afterwards--sharing your insights into the value of storytelling and how you got into the dramatic aspect through your son. Hopefully, you will return to our area in the near future. I have one year left in my elementary teaching. I would love to have you come to our school during the day for the kids and evening for families and adult/teacher workshop. A quick note to thank you for your performance, it was great. I attended with my 8 yr. old son and 5 yr. old daughter. They loved it. They also enjoyed you stopping and visiting before the show. (You helped them with pillows on their seats so they could see better.)   They appreciated your easy going nature, also your guitarist, he was great with them as well. These gestures may seem small but to a child they mean a great deal more!! They feel important and are taught lessons that may not even be evident now but they carry all these encounters into their adult lives. Thanks!!!!! Come again soon!!!

Diane's multicultural workshops offer creative and fun ways to help bridge the gap of the quickly changing rainbow of peoples in the classrooms. They offer ways which can be applied to the classroom to help young people bridge the divides with laughter and understanding. Her characterization workshops help both storytellers and writers in how to realize what makes each of those characters unique and bring this quality to the forefront. Not  to mention her stories are just downright fun.

Diane, Just a long note of heartfelt appreciation to thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with us here in Utah. My wife and I were touched deep within our heart and soul. Your gift is one of the most especial given by our God, that is, the gift of touching others hearts. We forgot the daily grind and were captured in your marvelous living art. We also thank your husband for his patience in sharing you with all of us. My wife and I sat in awe of your delivery and were truly enthralled by your ability to hold us in your spell. I remember looking at several of the youth (6-16 year olds) at the last session of Saturdays Festival. They were in complete "harmony" with your tale and totally caught up by your magic.

Next year we are going to get the message out early and will make sure all our friends get a personal invitation from us to attend. Simply put, you are awesome! We are thinking of attending some of the work shops next year and hope you are one of the teachers. You are on top of our list. I can not remember when I have been so affected. Perhaps when we visited the Washington D C's National Gallery exhibit for Van Gough last year... but that, even falls short of your ability to capture time, paint pictures in our minds with word, song, rhythm and voice inflections... all set to the beat of your heart, soul and rich heritage. We know how busy you are and there is no need to reply to this email. We are just two of the many who are thankful for you. As my wife put it, "That lady rocks!" In truth, you do!

Regards, Michael & Leslie Orgera

What a wonderful web site! I'm so proud to read about all of your accomplishments! And to know you have remained so balanced and loveable with all of your success is fantastic! WOW! I knew when I saw you ten years ago at the Oakland Museum that I was seeing something special. And then when you came to San Ramon for our Black Family February celebration, I was sure you were terrific. And now for you to be international leaves me speechless and proud to know you. Keep on with it girl!!!!! By the way I have helped to spread the word on Jackie.

Love, Linda

Diane Ferlatte captured the attention and cooperation of 300 kindergarten through 3rd graders in an assembly at my daughter's school. Diane's clear love of her work had the audience right there in her hands. The kids were listening, singing and signing along with enthusiasm as she presented her stories...even the kids in the back rows. The kids really put out effort in their participation and the joy was right there.

The next morning I happened to walk into the school library before school and there sitting around a table cutting up collage material were three little girls all happily, singing "I ain't got silver, I ain't got gold, but when I laugh I'll never grow old," a tune and words they had learned the day before from Diane's storytelling.

A few days later while working in the kitchen, I was treated to the self prompted retelling of two full stories by my 7 year old daughter, Elia. My daughter's retelling was full of the nuances Diane had presented. There were lots of hand and body gestures. Elia's words were full of energy, theatrical presentation and message. She also made sound effects (Oooh, Ahhhh, Eeee) and sang the songs within the stories she had heard. What a gift Diane passes on to the children!

Diane, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your program Friday night. I left so uplifted. Every bit of the program was about living our lives. Everytime I hear you I know more and more how you truly come from the heart. Your stories are always so powerful. Sharing about your life also lets me see how we all have similarities...We need to hear each other's stories and thusly understand each other much better.

Thanks for sharing. Wanna
